David Olarte

Founder, Director, and Core Dance Member

David (MFA, BS) is an urban Latin dancer who performed and taught salsa for the past 15 years, both nationally and internationally with the Seaon ‘Stylists’ Dance company and as director and founder of Stilo. Stilo represented USA at the 2013 World Latin Dance Cup, placing 3rd in the Salsa Team Division. As an ASU graduate student, David broadened his movement vocabulary to create a unique Latin fusion style while researching pedagogical frameworks that investigate transformative community practices. David is currently a faculty instructor for ASU’s School of Dance. David was recently awarded the Arizona Latin Dance Achievement Award for his continuous effort to support and develop the Arizona Latin Dance Community.

Carla Leon

Director of Operations and Core Dance Member

Carla was born in Phoenix. She lived in Mexico during her childhood and later moved to Phoenix where she graduated from ASU in 2016 with a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication with a focus in broadcast journalism and a minor in Dance. During her time at ASU, she was a part of the Social & Partnership Dance program where she focused on American Rhythm & Salsa. She also danced as a part of Devil DanceSport and Latin Performance Ensemble. Carla joined Stilo in 2016, where she is co-director alongside David Olarte. She is passionate about fusing her videography and photography skills with dance and bringing more depth to the art of storytelling.

Claudia Jara

Core Dance Member

Claudia Jara has been dancing with Stilo Dance Company since 2010. Her passion for dance began in high school where she danced hip hop and ballet folklorico. She discovered salsa in 2007 while attending ASU and has since been a part of the Phoenix salsa community. With Stilo, Claudia has performed both nationally and internationally, and has placed in the World Latin Dance Cup. Claudia recently began cross-training in New York with world class artists including Franklin Diaz, Eddie Torres, Selene Tovar and Griselle Ponce. Claudia is available in Phoenix for private instruction in salsa On1 or On2, bachata, styling, lead/follow partner work technique, bodywork, and footwork.

Zeth Kuritzky

Core Dance Member

Originally from Florida, Zeth began dancing there and moved to Phoenix to attend ASU. Zeth has been a part of the salsa community in Phoenix for the last 10 years. With Stilo Dance Company he has had the opportunity to perform both nationally and internationally, as well as placing in the World Latin Dance Cup. Zeth continues his salsa studies in New York, with world class artists including Franklin Diaz and Eddie Torres, while also training in other dance styles at Broadway Dance Center and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. Zeth is available in Phoenix for instruction in salsa On2 or On1, bachata, lead/follow partner work, turn patterns, body movement, and footwork/shines.

Joan Rodriguez

Artistic Director, Choreographer, and Core Dance Member

Joan Rodriguez was born in Havana, Cuba. He started his dancing career in the streets and in children's companies in Havana, eventually graduating as a dancer and teacher from the National School of Art in Cuba. After graduation, he danced professionally with Danza Abierta Company for three years. In 2013, Joan started dancing with the Malpaso Dance Company in Havana and worked under Osnel Delgado, resident choreographer and artistic director. In April 2016, Joan decided to make a major life change and moved to the United States. He has since had the opportunity to dance at the Joyce Theater and Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts and joined Stilo Dance Company.

Taimy Miranda

Artistic Director, Choreographer, and Core Dance Member

Taimy Miranda was born in Havana, Cuba and in 2008 graduated from the National Dance School of Havana. After graduation, Taimy danced with Danza Contemporanea de Cuba for four years. In 2013, Taimy began dancing with the Malpaso Dance Company in Havana and worked under Osnel Delgado, the resident choreographer and artistic director of the company. In April 2016, Taimy decided to make a major life change and moved to the United States. She has since had the opportunity to dance at the Joyce Theater and Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts and joined Stilo Dance Company.
